BUYING DIGITAL CAMERA?
Just a basic short guide to reminding you when buying a digital camera
Many users of modern digital cameras will not experiment with many of the functions it contains; this often leads to people buying something that doesn't suit their needs. When you are ready to buy a digital camera, consider what it is you want it to do. Of course many are doing away with the viewfinder altogether as it saves space but it means it is relying on the LCD screen which is a drain on the batteries. If this is your first camera then you must be honest with yourself if you have no idea what functions you would want your camera to have.
Next you need to think carefully about where and when you will use it. The financial outlay is always an important aspect even if you only want a basic model. You will probably be downloading the images onto your personal computer so check to see if your pc is up to the task of printing and editing these images. Some new personal computers come with a digital camera as part of a package, this may be worth considering. When you buy a digital camera, the image editing software usually comes with it but other necessities such as a photo printer will be an extra cost item.
Aside from a printer, possibly a special photo version, ink and paper for printing will be needed. By adjusting the megapixel setting up to the maximum you will ensure your pictures are of a much higher quality. Many of the latest model digital cameras have a small built in memory but this will only store a few images at the highest resolution so a separate storage card will be necessary. There are a number of card types - some of the latest the professionals use can store 32 gigabytes; hundreds, sometimes many thousands of images can be stored on these larger capacity storage cards.
How it feels in your hands is also important and will determine how often you use it. Take note of how easy it is to operate because although functions are important, if it isn't easy to use, it won't be! Before you buy a digital camera, check to see if it is supplied with batteries that are rechargeable; they may cost a little more initially but can be charged 1,000 times so are very cost effective. All digital cameras have a LCD screen which is a small screen located at the back of the unit; large screens make taking the picture so much easier.
Below are listed a few things that may be of assistance when you come to choose. Try to buy a model with an optical zoom which usually start with 3x power; this will be the most useful function you have. If you are serious about buying a digital camera then you should try to avoid purchasing one with only a digital zoom. Two other things to look out for are diopter adjustment for people with poorer vision and a tripod socket because both are very useful. With this information, you can now figure out what you really need and want before you buy a digital camera.
